Tips for reducing menstrual cramps

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’• Tips for reducing menstrual cramps:

  1. ๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ›Œ Get resting OR moving! (Contradictory but truthful). So, in other words, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Regular exercise along your cycle can improve pain but, as with everything, individuality rules. Move if you feel energized, give yourself and your body some grace if youโ€™re feeling drained and needing a nappy instead.

  2. ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿšซ Work on reducing inflammation: eliminate or limit your sugar, alcohol and dairy intake, especially during the second half of the cycle.

  3. ๐Ÿƒ Supplement with Magnesium: it can be taken throughout the cycle to promote restful sleep and control period pain.

  4. โšก๏ธ Supplement with B1 & B2 vitamins or, even better, with a good quality B-complex.

  5. ๐Ÿ’Š Instead of typical pain-killers such as ibuprofen, give omega 3-fatty acids a go: theyโ€™ve been proven to outperform ibuprofen when it comes to reducing period pain.

  6. ๐Ÿ’› Curcumin! A molecule found in turmeric, which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. (Find our golden-milk recipe on previous posts and give it a try!).

  7. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Heat therapy such as hot baths or hot water bottles can potentiate blood flow and relieve cramping pain.

  8. ๐ŸŒฟ Acupuncture, herbs and physical therapy can all be useful tools when it comes to reducing period (and other) pains.

  9. ๐Ÿ’ฅ Orgasms! Both non-penetrative and penetrative can help release pain-relieving endorphins: enjoyable and soothing, win-win!

  10. ๐ŸŒผ Essential oils such as chamomile, clary sage, rose and lavender can also be implemented to bring some comfort along this time of the month.

11. ๐Ÿ“Œ NSDAIDs are best taken as soon as your period starts, rather than waiting until the cramping has increased significantly.

12. โ™จ๏ธ Castor oil packs can be used during the first half of the cycle to reduce period pain.

13. ๐Ÿ”Œ TENs can reduce pain signals by acting on your spinal cord and brain, increasing important endorphins.

14. ๐ŸŒ™ Melatonin can not only promote sleep but also reduce period pain intensity.

15. ๐Ÿ’ง CBD oil can reduce period pain.

16. ๐Ÿ•ต๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Dig into histamine intolerancesโ€”this might give you a hint or reasons why your period is so intense and painful.

17. ๐Ÿšญ Avoid smoking, which has been strongly correlated to period pain.

18. ๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Work on reducing your stress: listen to music, go for a walk, read your favorite novel, take a bath, meditate, call your bfโ€ฆ

19. ๐Ÿ—“ Track your cycle and be aware of understanding each of the phases you navigate throughout the month. Give yourself permission to feel each of the feelings instead of punishing your body for doing what it is, by nature, meant to do!

20. ๐Ÿฅฃ Last but not least: eat for your cycle!!! Find a @bloommuesli mix designed to support each phase of the month in a nourishing and delicious way!
